Helping you get the best working relationships in your new job

Starting a new job can be a daunting prospect, especially when it comes to adapting to a new workspace, routine, role and of course, team!

However, there are lots of things that you can do in order to forge the best working relationships with your new colleagues and boss.

After all… it is your working relationships that play the biggest part in your working life.

Work on your people skills

Possessing people skills can play a major part in your ability to forge positive working relationships in your new job. From learning how to collaborate effectively and communicate your thoughts through to handling conflict and differences in opinion, it’s vital that you understand how to react to certain situations in the workplace.

Be positive

A positive attitude in the workplace will not only allow you to fulfil your potential, but positivity is also contagious and an attractive quality to possess.

It will also allow you to strengthen your relationships, as people like to be around people that are positive.

Participate in meetings

A great way to build positive working relationships with your new colleagues is to ensure that you contribute in meetings, this will instantly gain the respect of your new team.

Build relationships

Isolating yourself is never going to help you to create new friendships at work! So make sure you find the time in your working day to actually work on building new relationships.

For example, ask your colleagues if they would like to join you for lunch, grab a quick coffee or even grab a drink after work. It is these small interactions that help to form the foundations of successful working relationships.

Listen to your colleagues

No body likes somebody who doesn’t listen, especially in the workplace where it’s vital that you listen actively.

With this in mind, although it is important to contribute as much as you can, it is equally important that you give others the opportunity to share their opinions too.

Appreciate others

Team work is all about appreciating each other and acknowledging when someone else helps you.

After all, feeling appreciated can have a huge impact on morale and can open the door to some fantastic relationships with your colleagues.
